I had the opportunity this past weekend to photograph an absolutely beautiful couple around the National Mall.
What a fantastic time of year to take engagement pictures outside. The flowers around the National Mall have started to bloom and spring is in the air.
Early in the day is a great time to take pictures since there are fewer people out and the lighting is favorable. Even with the early morning sun, a fill flash with a Gary Fong diffuser was utilized to provide a nice even light.
Using a zoom lens will allow you to stand a little further back from the couple and still get beautiful close in shots. The distance may make the couple feel more comfortable and provide more natural expressions.
The interaction between the couple is the most important to capture.
Take-Aways:
1) Whenever possible scout the area ahead of time. Flowers in bloom, construction, and light at the time of day can have a great effect on your photographs.
2) Always arrive early for the photo-shoot.
3) Determine ahead of time some poses that you would like to use. Especially during your first engagement photos, it is easy to get nervous and draw a blank. Having poses in mind ahead of time can make the process smoother.
4) Remember to have fun. Engagements are a happy time!
Happy Photographing!
